Arboretum to host History of British Rock concert

The Pearl Beach Progress Association and the Pearl Beach Arboretum will hold a concert with British rock music from the 1960s and 70s at the Pearl Beach Arboretum at 2:30pm on Saturday, October 12.

The show will start with the naive innocence of the post skiffle, poor man's 'rock and roll' of the early 60's, said progress association publicity officer Ms Lynne Lillico.

She said it would follow the world changing social tsunami of the British Invasion, into the development of British Soul, through Psychadelia, reinventing the Blues and finishing the decade with first stages of Hard Rock.

Covering artists from The Beatles to Queen, from The Hollies to T-Rex, from the Stones to ELO, the show is performed John Kater, Maddy Breen, Russell Crawford, Rod Auld and Michael Carpenter.

Ms Lillico said the Pearl Beach Progress Association and the Pearl Beach Arboretum were not-for-profit community-based organisations which relied on revenue from events and activities like this to manage environmental projects and local facilities.

"We have had music events in the Pearl Beach Arboretum since 1995, and we continue the tradition.

"The Arboretum with a capacity of 800 people at an event such as the History of British Rock promises to be a memorable afternoon."

Patrons are encouraged to bring a chair, picnic and rug.

Parking will be available near the tennis courts, accessed via Tourmaline Rd..

Bookings are essential, with tickets costing $50 plus booking fee.
