Democracy not as important as planning and services
Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debas'd by slavery, or corrupt by power,
Who knows thee well, must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy tongue hypocrisy, thy heart deceit!
Epitaph to a Dog by Lord Byron
Democracy and The Law are not the most important things to most people, although they are grateful and benefit if they are there.
People want a comfortable life with food, water, electricity, transport and housing with their loved ones.
Why do you think China has risen? Unfortunately, non-democratic and aggressive.
With the advent of the internet there is much more disinformation, downright lies and distortions than was possible before.
Most do not have the resources to resist or challenge this.
The difference between hogwash and reality is now harder to discern.
The world, in most ways, is in a mess and locally we should focus on pot holes, ensuring sensible planning consent and the efficient provision of essential services such as garbage, electricity, water and sewerage.
Why are people who have proven themselves incompetent to lead in this area (our previous bankrupt council) allowed to stand for re-election now?
This is not democracy. It is dumb stupidity.
I am more relaxed that the State government wants to keep them under control.
I do not like my ratepayer funds wasted.
