Members of Parliament celebrate Meals on Wheels day
The Meals on Wheels restaurant in Woy Woy has had a visit from State Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch and Federal Member for Robertson, Dr Gordon Reid for Meals on Wheels Day.
Both politicians thanked the volunteers at Meals on Wheels Central Coast for their service.
"It was great to be able to help Meals on Wheels Central Coast during National Meals on Wheels Day," said Dr Reid.
"This fantastic service provides nutritious meals, and support to thousands of people on the Central Coast."
Ms Tesch said: "Meals on Wheels Central Coast helps the community by providing nutritious meals at a great price and leveraging the power of a meal to bring people together."
"Over 1000 tasty and nutritious meals a day are reaching dining tables across an area bigger than Canberra thanks to the dedication and commitment of Meals 160 caring volunteers, 18 dedicated staff and Board.
"Best of all, every time Meals on Wheels' caring volunteers turn up on peoples' doorsteps with delicious, affordable, quality meals they always bring with them generous servings of enthusiasm, care, a helping hand and a listening ear."
The community restaurants, including at Woy Woy, serve morning tea, a hot lunch, dessert, and beverages and offer a social outing.
Meals on Wheels Central Coast operations manager Ms Leesa O'Keefe said volunteers were the lifeblood of the organisation.
"Volunteers are welcome.
"There is always the need for an extra pair of helping hands, whether that is delivering meals to clients, assisting in our community restaurants, providing social support, administration or picking and packing in our warehouse."
