Governor-General introduces herself to Umina students
The Governor-General Ms Sam Mostyn has introduced herself to students from Umina Beach Public School on an excursion to Parliament House, Canberra.
"Our students were just starting a tour when Her Excellency arrived and was happy to join our group, introduce herself and talk with our students," said school principal Ms Karen Wardlaw, who accompanied the group.
"Year 6 were extremely respectful, interested and engaged and were rewarded with an impromptu selfie moment with the accommodating Governor-General."
The tour of the national capital included 73 students from the school.
They were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.
Activities included an embassy tour, old Parliament House, the Electoral Education Office, the National Museum, Government House and the Museum of Australian Democracy.
Other activities included a tour of the Australian War Memorial, a fun orienteering challenge at the National Arboretum, a little sightseeing and a bit of lunch before dropping in at Parliament House and chatting to Senator Deborah O'Neill, and a night visit to Canberra Reptile Zoo.
