Outrigger club wins championship medals in all divisions

Central Coast Outrigger Canoe Club competed at the State Championship at Port Stephens on Saturday, April 6.

The club did well with podium finishes in all divisions, said club committee member John Iliffe.

"An enjoyable weekend was had by all participants.

"Conditions were challenging after a strong weather front had passed through the region overnight creating high seas.

"Our Platinum OC6 team was invited up on the podium for a special recognition medal.

"Yes, 70 years plus can still do a 10km race in good time."

Novice paddler Stephen Peruch said his crew gave him a good run down of what to expect during the race.

"This was my first State Titles race.

"Surprisingly, I was not nervous, just excited to get on the water.

"I was very happy to have been part of the action and our bronze placing was great."

Another member, Murray Burrows, said: "It was a special day to remember."
