'Bumper year' for art classes, says centre president

The Ettalong Beach Arts and Crafts Centre had 130 members attending classes last year.

"It has been a bumper year for art classes that are running at maximum capacity," president Ms Sue Sullivan said in her report to the centre's annual meeting on Wednesday, March 13.

"Patchwork and quilting and pottery classes both maintain steady numbers of students.

"This leaves us with a healthy number of people in the community asking to be added to our waiting lists."

She said social media had "generated great interest in the skills our members are gaining with the guidance of our tutors".

"We have been pleased to welcome Jess Evans as a tutor to our silvercraft classes.

"The pottery centre finally received delivery of the new large kiln to replace the one that died after many years of good service.

"The new one is fitted with a vent that extracts the fumes and heat to the outside of the building."

Ms Sullivan said that Central Coast Council had completed renovations to both of the centre's buildings as well as repairs in the pottery centre.

"The old pergolas on the front of the buildings and timbers for the walkway to the rear were also replaced."

She said the centre had a new leader to its "Boobs and Bags team.

Ms Julie Turner will lead the work, producing the care packages for breast cancer patients.

She takes over from Ms Dorothy Mulholland and Carol Leitch who have led the effort supporting Gosford and Wyong Hospital's Breast Care Nurses for the past 16 years.

"So far this year our dedicated stitchery members have made in excess of 450 packages for Gosford hospital."
