Japanese nursing students have local work experience

A group of Japanese nursing students have had some work experience in a Umina aged care facility.

The Learning and Development Department at Peninsula Villages worked with Kobe Tokiwa University in Japan to organise the visit of the Japanese students to Don Leggett House last Wednesday, September 11.

Local interpreters helped facilitate communications and interactions with residents, so the future registered nurses could help residents make some origami.

The students also put on a traditional Japanese dance performance, and wrote Love in katagana calligraphy together with residents.

"It's clear with the connections made today, language is not a barrier when it is replaced with joy, care and kindness," said Peninsula Village chief executive Mr Colin Osborne.

"What a great cultural experience."
