Charity bowls day to raise money for Guide Dogs
Bowlers from Pearl Beach, Ettalong and visiting clubs will hold a charity bowls day at the Ettalong Bowling Club on Sunday, September 29, to raise money for Guide Dogs.
The day is being organised by the Central Coast's voluntary support group for Guide Dogs NSW.
Members of the group and Guide Dog handlers will attend the event.
"The group was formed in 1983 and has been active in fundraising from The Entrance to the Peninsula," said publicity officer Ms Lynne Lillico.
"In addition to raising funds, the group has been involved in community education and awareness campaigns including International Guide Dog Day and White Cane Day.
"Members with low vision or blindness have shared their experiences, helping to educate the Central Coast community about Guide Dog access rights, etiquette and how best to assist a person using a white cane."
Group president Ms Merran Rudder said: "With the cost to breed, train and raise one life-changing Guide Dog costing over $50,000, every dollar from the community counts.
"Guide Dogs NSW-ACT receives only minimal government funding.
"We appreciate the Central Coast community which continues to visit our stalls and the generosity provided to us by Central Coast shopping centres that allocate space for our fundraising activities.
"We appreciate the wonderful support that the Ettalong Bowling Club and their members continue to provide."
Cost for the charity day is $10 for bowlers, who must register by 9am, while visitors may simply attend and enjoy the club facilities.
Guide Dogs merchandise will be on sale.
An auction and raffle with a number of prizes will also be held.
