Tesch urges residents to prepare for storms
Residents are being urged to prepare for the increased risk of storms as the storm season officially begins.
Storm season traditionally occurs from September to April each year, when storms, strong winds and heavy rain tend to be more frequent, said Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch.
"The Bureau of Meteorology has indicated the risk of extreme storms is increased, for at least the start of the season.
"The NSW SES has responded to more than 21,000 storm related incidents over the past year.
"Of these, 1358 occurred in the Wyong area and 1016 in Gosford."
Ms Tesch said, to prepare for storms, residents should secure loose items outside, trim trees and branches away from properties, clean gutters and move cars from underneath trees.
She said people should not shelter under trees in a storm and should stay away from powerlines.
If you need assistance from the NSW SES, call 132 500.
