Woy Woy shows improvement in second rugby round

Gosford scored a win over Woy Woy at Gosford Showground by 27 points to 10 in round two of Central Coast Rugby Union, played on Saturday, April 21.

"It was a deserved victory to the Gosford team, but both teams showed marked improvement from the previous Saturday and showed that they will continue to improve as the season develops," said publicity officer Mr Larry Thomson.

He said the conditions were extremely wet underfoot in this match and players faced very trying conditions.

Gosford opened the scoring with an early converted try to five-eight Ben Shelley.

This 7-nil scoreline remained for much of the first half, before Woy Woy posted their first try late in the half.

Gosford went to the halftime break leading by the narrow margin of seven points to five.

This scoreline was an indication of the flow of the match at that stage.

Gosford took a little more control in the second half and were able to post a further 20 points in the final 40 minutes, including two tries, while Woy Woy were only able to respond with a lone try.

Woy Woy's best players were centre Guy Blades, and locks Jack Danielson and Jack Morrison.

Morrison was playing in his first top grade match and crossed for a try on debut.
