Woy Woy campus questions Christian College value

Brisbane Water Secondary College has targeted Green Point Christian College in a series of social media posts last week, claiming Woy Woy campus offered better value.

"Is your child's private school curriculum holding them back?" the Woy Woy campus posts ask.

"Experience the breadth of our offerings at zero cost.

"Invest in your child, not their school.

"What are you paying for?"

It claimed that the Green Point school had only 10 Band Six results in Year 12 last year compared to 17 at Woy Woy.

It said there were no tuition fees at Woy Woy, while the tuition fees over six years of secondary college at Green Point amounted to $64,364.

"The numbers don't lie," it stated.

"Our students excel academically without the price tag."

However, finding numbers for a more detailed comparison is difficult.

While the Christian College 2023 annual report gives details of numbers of students in each year, the Woy Woy campus annual report does not.

The Green Point report states it had 73 HSC students.

The Christian College report shows that in 2022 that school had 37 Band Six results, more than twice that quoted for Woy Woy, from a school of about a quarter of the number of secondary students (about 660 compared to 2450).

The 14-year Band Six average at Green Point was 23.9.

This is a 6.3 times higher rate of Band Six results per enrolled secondary student at Green Point than the 2023 Woy Woy rate.

Both schools' reports showed HSC exam averages for 2023.

Woy Woy reported nine of 19 courses (47 per cent) recorded averages above the state average.

Green Point reported nine out of 30 courses (30 per cent) had school means above the state mean in 2023. In 2022, the figure was 15 out of 28 courses (54 per cent) above the state average.

Beyond the value for money proposition, Brisbane Water Secondary College social media post, presumably authorised by campus principal Ms Rebecca Cooper, stated: "We pride ourselves on offering one of the most diverse patterns of study in the state, with pathways and subject options to support every passion and ambition.

"Whether it's STEM , creative arts, vocational education or academic pathways, we've got something to inspire and empower every learner.

"Our timetable is built and driven by student choice - to open doors and allow students to pursue their passions.

"We believe every student should have the opportunity to excel in subjects that truly matter to them, without needing to look anywhere else."

The post said that Woy Woy campus was a learning community that celebrated innovation, opportunity, and diversity.
