Writers' festival includes 70 sessions and 100 authors

This year's Words on the Waves Writers' Festival has more than 70 sessions featuring 100 authors over six days from Wednesday May 29, to Monday, June 3.

Book launches will continue until Saturday, June 8.

While most will be held on the Peninsula, centred around the Umina Beach Surf Life Saving Club and Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club, several are scattered at venues across the Coast including Long Jetty and Erina, and at Council libraries at Erina, Tuggerah and Kincumber.

Literary names featured next weekend, June 1 and 2, include Catherine Chidgey, Steven Carroll, Laura Jean McKay, Alice Pung, Tony Birch, Nam Le and Myfanwy Jones.

Crime authors include Benjamin Stevenson and Amanda Hampson, while fiction authors include Lauren Chater, Kate Forsyth, Melissa Ashley and Gabbie Stroud.

Writers about politics and contemporary culture include Bruce Pascoe, Frank Bongiorno, Lech Blaine, Toby Walsh, Hannah Diviney and Ben McKelvey.

Others include the memoirs of Robyn Davidson, Pia Miranda, Julie Goodwin, Stephanie Wood and Gregory P Smith.

Some sessions are only accessible via a day pass or a weekend pass, which costs $160, while others are available individually from $10 a session.

Special events include a literary cruise.

Some free activities, such as book launches, are available and others including family day events cost no more than $10 including booking fee.

A full program and further information is available online at the festival website https://wordsonthewaves.com.au.
