Invitation to join paddle out for cancer research

A group of female surfers is asking local residents to join them in a Paddle Out at Umina Beach at 4pm next Sunday, February 25,

The group, the Kook Warriors, is one of almost 100 teams of surfers from all over Australia taking part in SurFebruary.

The surfers will paddle out, catch some waves, and raise money for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.

Booker Bay team member Ms Vanessa Hession, a cancer survivor, said: "I found Surfebruary as I had been looking for a way to raise money and awareness after my own life-changing cancer journey.

"It's been such a great way to combine my love of the ocean and raise money for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse."

She said the team had received sponsorship from a local surf school, whose owner had joined the team and would wear wear a SurFebruary rashie to all lessons in February.

Donations may be made online at www.surferbuary.com/fundraisers/KookWarriors.
