Operational land is well and truly locked up
Central Coast Council Administrator Mr Rik Hart speaks of Operational Land as "free", and Community Land as "locked up".
This is a mirror image of reality, at least to most of those people who bothered to listen.
At the moment our Memorial Ave reserve is well and truly locked up.
After the depredations of the mountain bikers and the unchecked growth of paspalum, nobody can get in.
As for the trees, they are struggling to escape from the suffocating prickly-pear-lookalike creeper.
Even if the council is eventually to sell the land, the council should maintain the reserve in the meantime.
At least, a team of arborists should be sent in to free the trees.
Council should cut the paspalum back, fill in the biker-made holes, and pick up the rubbish.
Local ratepayers could then enjoy what is rightfully theirs: a reserve, a park, a place to walk, sit, relax and even do a bit of bush care.
