One-way traffic for Woy Woy Lions
The round five rugby union game played on Saturday, May 13, proved to be one-way traffic for Woy Woy who defeated Lake Macquarie 70-3 at Woy Woy Oval.
Woy Woy controlled proceedings from start to finish and were able to run in 10 tries in the match, according to Central Coast Rugby Union publicity officer Mr Larry Thomson.
Woy Woy led by 35 points to three at the halftime break and then were able to post a further 35 points in the second half.
"It was a pleasing performance by the home team," he said.
"The win sees them get their first victory of the season and will give the team much confidence going forward.
"Lake Macquarie tried everything in response but had no answer on the day."
Best players for Woy Woy were flanker Bruce Folau, No.8 Sonatane Filimone Lilo and prop Paea'l Fatu'ainga Nau.
The win was a reversal of the match in the previous round where Avoca Beach defeated Woy Woy at Woy Woy Oval, 101-3, on Saturday, May 6.
"It was a disappointing performance by the home team who were missing several players on the day," said Mr Thomson.
"Avoca Beach went to the halftime break leading by 54 points to three and, even at that stage, the result was a foregone conclusion.
"Avoca Beach was able to mount a final tally of 15 tries in this match."
