Clean4Shore to remove derelict vessels in Phegans Bay
The Clean4Shore clean-up organisation will seek the help of residents of Phegans Bay and Central Coast Council in its efforts to remove derelict vessels from the area.
"Clean4shore will seek the assistance of local residents to identify those vessels either owned or that have floated in from the storms over the past three years," said co-ordinator Mr Graham Johnston.
"Council intervention will be required due to restricted access in this Bay plus the size of some of these vessels being too large for a Clean4shore operation.
"Unfortunately derelict vessels litter the foreshores with eight counted, requiring stakeholder and owners approval to clear these wrecks from our waterways."
Two vessels, laying in the mangroves, were removed on Sunday, May 7, "with great local assistance as both vessels were towed free and loaded on the car trailer".
A black and white vessel weighed 800 kilos while a sky blue craft weighed more than a tonne.
Later, locals contacted Clean4shore with approval to move another craft closer to Woy Woy Rd, Mr Johnston said.
Earlier, Clean4shore and students from North Gosford Learning Centre visited Phegans Bay to remove old sailboards, a vessel motor and canoes and building timber.
"The big green barge created plenty of interest from residents on their balconies high above the waterline."
A 440kg load was delivered to Woy Woy tip on Thursday, May 4.
