Sydney Writers Festival events streamed free
Sydney Writers Festival author events will be live-streamed free at Umina Beach Library from 10am on Friday, May 24.
Three sessions will be streamed.
From 10-11am, philosopher AC Grayling will talk about "Meaning of Life in a Technological Age".
The quest for a life worth living has been the business of philosophers for millennia.
The session will address how to pursue answers to life's big questions in an increasingly unstable technological age.
The topic between 12 and 1pm will be The War on Journalists.
With conflict continuing in Ukraine, and the death toll of journalists in Gaza reaching alarming proportions, the session will look at the role of journalists in war.
It will feature Julian Borger, John Lyons, Alisa Sopova and Anastasia Taylor-Lind, hosted by Hamish Macdonald.
From 2-3pm, Abdulrazak Gurnah will talk about his 10th novel Afterlives, with Sisonke Msimang.
It will explore his writing and unpack the legacies of empire.
His novel explores displacement, loss and love during and after German occupation of East Africa.
The free events will be available to view on the big screen.
All sessions will have captions.
Bookings are needed and may be made at the library or by phone on 4304 7333.
