Extra councillor numbers mean reduced responsibility
As former mayor of Gosford City, I will be voting for the reduced number of councillors, namely nine, at the up and coming referendum for local government.
Those people who advocate for a greater number (15) and talk about reduced democracy fail to see extra numbers mean reduced responsibility and we all know how that worked out last time.
Councillors need to work on policy and let the employees of the Central Coast Council deal with all the parish pump issues and then if they get no satisfaction then by all mean ask an elected representative for help.
Too often squabbling as a Council over small issues leaves no time for the important ones.
Trying to come to some sort of consensus is hard enough for nine people let alone 15.
Let's have a lean Council and that should start at the top.
