Councils sponsor young athletes

Two young Peninsula athletes have received sponsorship from the Central Coast Regional Organisation of Councils to participate at national and international sporting events.

Jake McCarthy of Wagstaffe received $1000 to attend the Under-15s NSW Combined High Schools Sports Association Boys Water Polo Team Tour in New Zealand next month while Cassidy Matterson of Empire Bay received $500 to attend the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships held in Brisbane earlier this month.

Jake was selected to be a part of the Water Polo tour after strong performances for the Central Coast representative team and being selected into the Talented Athletes Program at the NSW Academy of Sport.

On tour Jake will compete in the Pan Pacific Youth Water Polo Festival as well as a three test series against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, 10-year-old Cassidy competed at NSW Primary School State level and represented NSW at a National Level to be selected for the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships.

Jake and Cassidy joined three other local athletes from the Central Coast to receive financial support from the Central Coast Regional Organisation of Councils.
