Club raises $80,000
The Rotary Club of Woy Woy has raised more than $80,000 for charity this year, according to retiring president Mr Peter Clark.
He told the club's annual meeting: "Major recipients were Shelterbox ($14,400) to provide emergency accommodation in natural disaster areas worldwide and Polio Plus ($4000) to help in the final eradication of the polio virus.
"The very successful Opera in the Arboretum raised $28-000 and this was distributed among Peninsula Village, Woy Woy Community Aged Care, Coastwide Community Transport, Vietnam Veterans Federation and Umina Beach SLSC to assist in the provision of community transport projects.
"Overseas projects saw the club give financial support to Rotary projects in the Philippines, East Africa, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Nepal.
"Newly elected president Don Tee will lead the club through the 2009-10 year assisted by secretary Amanda Bickerstaff and treasurer Peter Mote."
