Round about a year
The upgrade of the intersection at Charlton St and Victoria Rd in Woy Woy is expected to be completed by September next year.
Member for Gosford Ms Marie Andrews had welcomed the news that project development work and land acquisition had begun on the State Government's $3 million Woy Woy safety upgrade.
Ms Andrews said the upgrade would greatly improve safety and traffic flow.
"I'm pleased the RTA is replacing the current T-intersection with a roundabout," Ms Andrews said.
"This will eliminate the existing right-of-way conflicts and improve visibility on the approaches to the intersection.
"It has been necessary to relocate some utility services and demolish a house in Victoria Rd in preparation for the major building work next year."
The upgrade, identified as part of the state-wide Traffic Improvement Program, will increase the footpath width at the intersection.
It will also involve the removal of some existing on-street parking and landscaping in Victoria Rd.
"I am advised access for cars into and out of some properties along this section will also be restricted to left turn only," Ms Andrews said.
"This is being done to improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
"The area will also benefit from the resurfacing of about 75 metres of Charlton Rd and 125 metres of Victoria Rd, with new signage and line markings as part of the new roundabout installation."
