History talk at Woy Woy library
Woy Woy Library will host a special talk with local studies librarian Mr Geoff Potter as part of National Law Week.
Mr Potter will discuss a dramatic tale of escape and capture to reveal Gosford's role in one of the greatest chases in the state's history.
"In 1959, a young armed robber, Kevin Simmonds, escaped with Leslie Newcombe from Long Bay Gaol," Mr Potter said.
"This triggered the largest police manhunt in NSW history.
"Both Simmonds and the police displayed great ingenuity and endurance during the manhunt, first around Sydney and later in the wild hills behind Gosford and Wyong.
"This is an enthralling story which takes a look back into our history as a developing area and explains how Kevin Simmonds used the rugged bushland around Gosford to hide from his captors."
The talk will be held on Friday, May 21, at Woy Woy Library from 10am to 11.30am.
