Older Women support church 'food security' projects
The local Deepwater branch of the Older Women's Network has decided to support two "food security" projects run out of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Woy Woy.
It has identified the "Second Bite" food pantry and the "Hope and Meals" project run from the church hall at 83 Blackwall Rd as worth of support.
The Hope and Meals Dinner at 6pm is run every Friday night, said branch secretary Ms Jennifer Brown.
"The project is open to everyone in the community to come and share a decent meal, meet people from every walk of life and have some light hearted banter and conversation with other community members.
"Recently, we received a request from project team leader Mr Jeffery Law to provide some much-needed kitchen supplies and 10 sleeping bags for rough sleepers."
Ms Brown said the branch was able to provide three large baking tins with racks, a dozen forks, knives, dessert spoons and teaspoons.
It donated two large salad bowls, 12 dessert bowls, three oven mitts, and five tea towels.
It supplied a set of six kitchen knives and knife sharpener, 80 paper cups, and 400 serviettes, as well as 10 sleeping bags.
"The kitchen supplies will see the community dinner through for some time," said Ms Brown.
Ms Brown said the branch had already given $500 to the regular food pantry.
"We hope to continue our association with the Seventh Day Adventist Church," she said.
