Open day for park
More than 200 Peninsula residents turned out for a community open day of the Peninsula Recreation Precinct planned for Umina oval on November 29.
Gosford Council's coordinator of active open spaces Ms Karen Tucker said the event provided local residents with an opportunity to gain further information on all facets of the planned project and offered an opportunity for the local community to make an imprint on their future park.
"One of the most popular activities on the day was the tile art stall where attendees showed their artistic flair by creating a painted tile, which will be incorporated into the landscaping within the new playground facility," Ms Tucker said.
"Adults and children alike created their piece of history to be viewed by all once the new facility is developed and opened.
"The Bad Boy Skate Jam and the Central Coast Mariners Coaching clinics were also a highlight of the day with many young local children enjoying the opportunity to mix with professionals of their preferred sport.
"Flora and Fauna tours gave local residents a better understanding of the sensitive nature of the local environment and how this project will help enhance and protect these natural areas.
"A number of volunteers from the local area undertaking fundraising activities on the day, including representatives from Woy Woy Rotary, Umina Rotary, Umina Surf Life Saving Club, Ocean Beach Holiday Park and members of the former Peninsula Family Action Group."
Ms Tucker said Member for Robertson Ms Belinda Neal, state member Mr John Della Bosca and Member for Gosford Ms Marie Andrews, Gosford mayor Cr Chris Holstein and Cr Jeff Strickson were all in attendance on the day.
