'Regular eye checks' was the message

A "vocational visit" to an optometrist in Ettalong by the Rotary Club of Woy Woy has highlighted the need to get your eyes checked regularly, particularly as you get older.

Club president Mr Tom McCann described the visit to Bay Optical on Tuesday, November 26, as "a fun and informative evening".

"Optometrist Dr Simon Della Vedova regaled the 20 members and partners in attendance, with facts and stories about eyes, eye-related issues and personal anecdotes about eyes for just over an hour," he said.

"During that time, those in attendance learned about the impacts and causes of cataracts, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration.

"While cataracts are reasonable easy to treat, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration are not so.

"Simon assured us that through early detection, management of these conditions can significantly reduce their impact.

"The lesson from the evening is to get your eyes checked regularly for these conditions, particularly as we age."
